More About the Walks

Route Maps: Each walker will provided a detailed map and directions when they start the walk, in addition the routes are marked with arrows and ribbons. Online maps are provided for general information only.  Substantial changes may occur at any time before the event.  These routes have portions not open to the public or safe for use except during the event and should be used only for information before the event.

Parking
Parking is available at meters and at the Park and Go lots for 50 cents per hour on Friday (maximum of $4 till 6 pm, $1.50 6 pm till close) or $1.50 for the entire day on the weekend. Rates subject to change. The Park-N-Go machines take only coins or credit cards and debit cards, not paper money.  Please bring coins or a card. Parking at the hotel is available for guests only.

Registration

Registration Form
Registration fee includes all events plus the awards/certificates, IVV Credit and IML Credit.  Record Books for both IVV and IML will be available for purchase.  International Marching League credit is earned by completing at least 20K each day on Saturday and Sunday. IML achievement medals and country bars will be available for sale to those achieving award levels.  IVV Credit is available for distances 5K or more, or any distance for the functionally disadvantaged.

  • $10 per person for each walk, bike, or swim.  There are discounts for early registration and for groups of 10 or more.  See the Registration Form for details.

  • Children under 12 free, must be accompanied by an adult registered for the event. 

  • Not refundable.

  • Pre-registration by mail must be postmarked by April 15, 2008 - otherwise come register at the event in person.  Online registration open through April 20.

  • Day of event registration is available on Friday from noon-6 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 am - 12 pm.

All ages are welcome

  • Family participation is encouraged and children age 12 and under may participate for free; however, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Children must register to receive the award.

  • All trails will be clearly marked.

  • Pets must be leashed and "scooped". No pets allowed in the buildings - registration, start, finish, checkpoints.  Please keep your pet outside.  No pets on the shuttle bus for the 21K and 33K routes. If you must walk these with your pet, please walk the 10K route as many times as needed for your chosen distance.

  • All participants must register.

  • These events are sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA).

  • New Walker Packets are available for $5.00 to get our new friends started in the IVV Individual Achievement Award program.  Going on an AVA/IVV Walk

Stipulations

All participants must sign a waiver and with registration accept the guidelines of the AVA and will adhere to the directions of the event personnel.  The sponsors and AVA are not liable for loss, theft, damage, or injury

Social Activities

Fun and friends at the Discovery Walk Festival

Musical entertainment is planned for your dancing and listening pleasure throughout the weekend.

Opening ceremonies 4 pm Friday.
Closing ceremonies are planned for 3:00 pm Sunday.

Along the Walk

Checkpoints every 5 to 7K provide water, restrooms, and a first aid kit. Please carry along your own water bottle to drink between checkpoints.

Selected checkpoints will be near restaurants and convenience stores with snacks for sale. 

Vancouver Fire Department Paramedics will patrol the routes on bike. 

The Clark County Amateur Radio Club provides communication support. 

The Vancouver Bicycle Club will support the cyclists.

Silver Star Search and Rescue provides trail support and walker aid.

Trail support will be provided by the Boy Scouts and community volunteers.

Special Programs:  We endeavor to list the various state and national programs our events qualify for.  Please check back at the event itself for a final list.  Each distance, each day qualifies for different programs.  This changes as we make last-minute changes to the routes for the safety of the walkers.  Call ahead the week of the event if a certain program is your sole deciding factor on which walk to enjoy.
