Saturday

The Discovery Walk Festival hosted an amazing number of families today.  Of the 1514 people registered to walk today, 240 were age 12 and under.  The Family Fun 6K was almost equally children and adults.  The weather was gorgeous.  We had 116 marathon registrants, including a heart transplant recipient and a dual kidney/pancreas recipient.  The heart transplant recipient, Donald, has now completed 28 marathons in 18 states.  His goal is to complete a marathon on all 50 states to promote organ donation.  We were happy to give Arthur extra Marathon finisher patches to share with the family of his donor and his medical team.  He is an inspiration to all of us that it isn't too late to turn your life around.  He says he was a couch potato before the transplant.   Now he is on fire to be healthy and to promote organ donation.

Our walk sponsor for Saturday is Realvest Corporation.  The Family Fun 6K walk is sponsored by Southwest Washington Medical Center.

The Discovery Walk Festival continues on Sunday with walks of 6K, 10K, 21K, and 33K. You may also enjoy a 25K or 50K bike and one to two 300 meter swims.
